For the last 6 years we have been watching the racing paddle board industry very closely, making notes on the design evolution and changes that have been posted year on year by the world’s best brands. We have analyzed results on a global level, noting changes that work well in certain conditions and those that do not. We have also taken a very close look at racing yachts that have been designed to perform in both upwind non-plaining and downwind plaining conditions, to optimize the performance of our hull.
The Razor features a lower volume bow with a water shedding deck and an aggressively swept back nose. The bow has a higher entry volume under the waterline to aid in developing an efficient sine wave, allowing for more efficient movement in non- plaining conditions. These include cruising or paddling at a sustainable race pace. The deck profile sheds water quickly and the aggressively swept back bow brings the design more in line with modern trends, improving the board’s aerodynamic profile in cross wind conditions and helping to reduce the weight on the bow, resulting in an ultra-light race craft.
During high intensity bursts such as sprints and rapid acceleration out of buoy turns, the sine wave generating nose, lifts out of the water, allowing for a more efficient path needed for high speed water flow. The aerated water is then directed into an aggressive central single concave (rather than forcing it out to the side and wasting energy). This in turn creates extra lift, further reducing the drag and increasing speed.
There are subtle bevels just below the rails on both sides of the board, to stabilize it and counteract the negative stability that a fast concave generates.
The Razor has a cockpit design in it, lowering the standing position and thus improving stability. The cockpit drains out through holes just above the water line on both sides of the board.
